An extremely common tattoo motif, butterfly tattoos are regularly seen in a wide variety of styles. Outside of aesthetic appeal, they have a broad range of meanings ranging from general "freedom" notions to bisexuality, nature, and religious themes depending on the context and culture (and even, surprisingly, masculinity, as in the movie Papillon).

BME maintains a large gallery of butterfly tattoo pictures.
